Rideshare Safety Tips. Stay Safe While Riding.

Rideshare safety tips are something that I believe everyone should be aware of these days. We’ve all been hearing about the horrifying stories in the media about Uber drivers kidnapping and killing passengers. It is very important to make sure that you are being alert and aware of your surroundings whenever you go out. Always follow certain precautions when it comes to taking any type of rideshare so that you and your loved ones remain safe.

Share Your Trip

Always inform someone that you know that you are about to hop into an Uber or Lyft. These apps have safety features where you can send the status of your trip. With Uber, you can select up to 5 people from your contact list and it will share your status. They will receive a link where they will get all the details of your trip. It contains driver and vehicle info and they will also be able to track your trip in real time. That’s awesome!

Don’t Share Personal Details

I heard of a case where the Uber driver dropped a couple off at the airport and then doubled back to rob their house. Sharing too many details such as “Yeah we’re going out of town for three days” or giving a stranger any insight into your daily routine isn’t the smartest move. There is no rule that says that you have to be hella chatty with your driver. That goes for other passengers as well if you happen to be in an Uber pool. It is okay to be pleasant without getting personal.

Have The Driver Confirm Your Name

It’s a simple yet important task. Just a simple “Hi. Who are you here to pick up?” or “What’s my name?” should suffice. That’s a safe way to exchange names without coming off too aggressive. Also, the driver might ask you to confirm their name just to be safe on their end.

Always Hop In The Back Seat

If possible, be a back seat rider when hopping into a ride share. Sitting in the back gives you and the driver a little distance from each other. It also allows you to be able to exit the car on either side if you have to quickly get out. I know how easy it is to just get back there, take out your phone, and get distracted during the ride but always stay alert! It also wouldn’t hurt to carry some extra protection on you like this pepper spray.

Trust Your Gut

Always trust your own instincts. If you feel like something is off, stay alert and be prepared to act if necessary. Use the Emergency buttons within the app or on your phone to dial 911. When dialing 911 within the Uber app, the app provides you with your real-time location and trip details that you can share with the dispatcher. Also, in some cities, that information is sent straight to the dispatcher.

Best Brunch Spots in Atlanta

Brunch is always something to look forward to. Chicken and waffles….shrimp and grits…MIMOSAS! What’s not to love?

I personally used to have trouble making it to brunch because weekends for me meant sleeping in until 12:00 p.m. However, I guess my body has finally realized that I’m nearing 30 and has been waking me up at 9 a.m. most weekends, which I am surprisingly okay with. I have officially become a damn adult. But I digress…

Atlanta has so many great brunch spots. Some I have actually tried but there are many others that are on my bucket list to try. Let’s check out a few!

55th & Park Restaurant and Lounge

Located in Downtown Atlanta, 55th & Park is a great dining/lounge experience. Hence the “restaurant and lounge” in the title. Depending on the day and the time there is a vibe for everyone. Sometimes it can turn into a little bit of a party so be prepared for loud music and a festive atmosphere. Other times it is more chill. It just depends on the day. It’s a modern style but offers southern classics such as chicken and waffles, Cajun fish and grits, crab legs and more. Brunch is available on Saturday from 12-4 and Sunday 12-6. And we can’t forget about the mimosas! They offer Limited Bottomless Cocktails (Mimosa and Peach Bellini) for $15.55 from 12-4 on Saturday and Sunday!

South City Kitchen

With South City Kitchen what you get is sophisticated southern classic vibes without the arrogant uppity vibes that make you feel unwelcome. With multiple locations including Midtown and Buckhead, South City Kitchen offers an atmosphere for everyone seeing as how each location has its own vibe. Brunch is from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. You can start off with some delicious cornbread and biscuits and appetizers such as fried green tomatoes or crab toast. From there you can move on to their signature fried chicken and buttermilk waffles, smoked brisket benedict or some shrimp and grits. Take your pick. Although they do not currently have any special cocktail deals, you can still choose from a few selections including the classic mimosa, a mango mimosa and a few others all ranging from $9-$12 a glass.

Located in the heart of Virginia Highland, Murphy’s can meet all of your needs because it is a restaurant/bakery/wine shop. What more do you need? Brunch is available every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 am- 4 pm. Some of their brunch favorites are the buttermilk pancakes, french toast, Parmesan crusted chicken breast and chilaquiles. Also, they have a variety of egg specialties such as, crab cake benedict, omelettes and many more. They also have avocado toast. In case you’re feeling a little toasty…get it? Okay pretend that never happened…next! You can also choose from a few different sandwiches, frittatas, and several different sides. I heard that the blueberry mimosa is really tasty!

Buttermilk Kitchen

Situated inside of a little blue house on Roswell Road, Buttermilk kitchen is where you can head to if you want a delicious meal made from scratch. It has choices from B.Y.O.B. (Build your own breakfast) to lobster omelettes to a local grit bowl that has grits, sausage, sautéed spinach and topped with 2 eggs your way. If you’re looking for something a little different, they also have a waffle burger that is a pepper jack stuffed sausage-beef burger with bacon, maple aioli, served with truffle potato.

Folk Art

With an amazing location on North Highland Avenue, Folk Art has also opened up a second location in Decatur where we all can enjoy the deliciousness that is their food. Serving diner-style favorites all day long, you can come and get your fix for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Select anything from the Southern Comfort which is shrimp sautéed with onions and peppers in a shrimp broth served over grits topped w/ 2 fried eggs to steak and eggs to a patty melt with  caramelized onions, swiss cheese & 1k Island double. If you’re feeling more sandwich-y, there are several options that you can opt for such as a classic shrimp po’boy, a fried chicken sandwich with collard green cole slaw or the “Bad to the bone” which consists of house roasted pork shoulder topped with collard green cole slaw, date chili bourbon BBQ, gruyére cheese, & caramelized onions.

Here’s a few places that have great brunch bottomless mimosa specials whenever you’re free to check them out:

  • Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint
    • Sundays at 11 am- 3pm… Endless Mimosas: $16 for Sunday brunch & live jazz.
  • 10th & Piedmont
    • Bottomless mimosas $17.95 per person on Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 10-6. Last call for bottomless at 4 pm.
  • Bar Mercado
    • Bottomless available Saturday and Sunday for $15. Served until 3 pm.
  • Red Pepper Taqueria
    • $15 bottomless mimosas served Saturday and Sunday from 11 am-3 pm.

Life Has Taught Me That…

Brittany Jones, Life is Beautiful

Life is a crazy and unpredictable ride. It has its ups and downs but it’s pretty damn fun along the way. In my 26 years on this Earth, I’ve learned a lot and I’m still continuing to learn new things everyday. The biggest realization that I have come across is that ultimately….

I really don’t know shit. All this time I Just Thought I Did. But I Don’t.

We all wanted to be adults so bad. Now look at us
Source: Google

Alright, I’ve learned quite a few things but there is always something new to learn. As a person that is constantly evolving and changing, sometimes what I thought I knew, doesn’t apply anymore. So I have to readjust, which is perfectly fine. I love to grow. It’s life.

So Far, Life Has Taught Me That….

  • I can’t compare my progress to that of others. I had to realize that my journey is mine alone and I can’t go around comparing my life to the people I see around me. Sometimes scrolling through Instagram will make you feel like you’re so financially behind because you don’t have all the expensive bags, cars and clothes. But then I had to remember that my time will come. And ultimately, you don’t know the story behind all of the pictures that you see on social media. You don’t know what some people have to do to get all those things, so I just count my blessings and have faith in the process!
  • I have to hold myself accountable. When it comes down to it, you have to be answerable to your actions and your decisions. You are in charge of you. At the beginning of 2018, I told myself I am holding myself accountable when it comes to my goals.  I cannot half-ass anything and expect amazing results. I have a tendency to go that route sometimes. That is something that I had to come to terms with and I’m trying to fix that about myself. Also, I had to understand that when something fails or does not go exactly the way I pictured it, 90% of the time that’s on me. I cannot always blame the circumstances. Sometimes you just have to put on your big girl panties and figure out a way to fix it!
  • Time goes on regardless of what you do…or don’t do. When I set goals for myself, I have a tendency to get lazy after a while. Even though it is common sense, you have to realize that you cannot reach your goals unless you work hard. I have learned that I can either waste time complaining or I can just get shit done. I am a huge procrastinator and it’s an everyday struggle to stay motivated. But it’s finally gotten through my thick skull that my actions have to match my mindset. Time moves quickly and if I want to be able to live the life I see in my head before I’m 30, then I have to get my shit together! I have to set a goal, stay motivated and find a way to achieve it. Point blank period!
  • I have to enjoy life to the fullest! I learned early on that you have to do what makes you happy in this life or else one day you’ll look up and realize you haven’t done anything worthwhile. Life is short. Everything you want to do, find a way to do it. Have adventures with your friends. Go on that trip. Shoot your shot with that person you like. Always eat that cookie! Life is all about creating beautiful memories with the amazing people who you love.
  • I should always have confidence in myself. I know that isn’t always easy or possible, but I have to always make the effort to have faith in myself. I am a strong, beautiful woman and I have to always remember that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. So basically, I’m the shit.

Life is a never-ending cycle of lessons. You get broken down, you fall but you get back up again. Every time. I am on a journey to find new things that happily feed my soul and my spirit. It is never to late to learn new things about yourself. Just in case you care enough to learn a little more about lil ole Brittany, take a look at 20 Facts About Me!  Although, I gotta admit, I’m more interesting in person. I know that life has much more to offer me and I’m excited to see where it takes me!

What are some things that life has taught you so far? Let me know!

In 2018 I’m Going to Do Better With…

  • Actually committing to a gym and workout routine. Every summer I complain about not having the summer body that I want. Even I am sick of listening to my own bullshit *face palm* It’s time to make it happen! Time to get those abs bitch!
  • Not comparing myself to other people’s progress. Sometimes I look at these Instagram girls and wish that I had the money they seem to have, the expensive things and the trips. I had to remind myself that my journey is not the same as theirs. I will get all of those things eventually.  It’s all a matter of how and when I am supposed to get it. Timing is everything.
  • Managing my money better. I think that this will be an ongoing life struggle because I just love buying things…any kind of things. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to keep swiping that card, but I plan to spend it more wisely. Or somehow just start making more money. That will work too.
  • Winged Eyeliner. I’m actually going to practice applying it this year instead of continually wishing I could have on bomb eyeliner. I could have had this skill a long time ago if I would have stopped being so lazy. But like…laying around doing nothing is sooo appealing.
  • Not overthinking and assuming so much.  It can get pretty fucking annoying when you overthink a situation to the point where it causes an issue that doesn’t really exist. I honestly think that overthinking is in my blood but I’ve gotten so much better at just going with the flow in the past year so I’m pretty sure I can tackle this.
  • Time management. I need to learn how to stick to a schedule. Point. Blank. Period.
  • Being Consistent. This means being consistent in how I approach everything including my goals and how I handle certain situations.
  • Eating better.  I probably say this every day of my life but I’m serious this time. Just like last time….
  • Holding myself accountable. I need to start holding myself more accountable for the things that happen…or don’t happen. If I have goals that I am trying to reach then I need to make sure that I am getting everything done that I need to. No more being stagnant.

Working on myself will be a lifelong process and there will always be new things that I will need to improve on. One thing that has been cemented into my thick skull is that I am the only one that can better my own life. Unless I make the changes, physically and mentally, things will always remain the same.

I am tired of complaining about the same shit. So it’s time to change up my mentality. Time to finally get my shit together!

What’s something that you need to work on in 2018?

Technology Killing Our Friendships?

So, I think it’s safe to say that almost all of us are in love with social media. If we weren’t, you wouldn’t be reading this right now!

Imagine this……You go out to eat with friends and you barely touch your phone. Okay okay. You absolutely HAVE to post your food when it looks amazeballs. That’s a rule. Seriously it is. I checked.

I’ve been hearing it and reading it in articles about how technology and social media is ruining our friendships. I don’t entirely agree. Do I think that it plays a part in people being less social with “real people” sometimes? Yes. Sometimes you will notice other groups of people when you’re out to eat and notice that most of them are just staring at their phone screens and not interacting with the rest of the group. Like hellooooo….there are actual people to talk to sitting right next to you.

But I won’t go so far as to say that social media/technology is ruining relationships. In a lot of aspects, it is making interacting and staying in touch with friends so much easier because we have so many resources in which to reach out to them. When it comes to hanging out with friends you have to have a good balance when it comes to your phone and your friends.

For example, when me and my best friend go out to eat, we rarely touch our phones. Of course we find time to insta our food and tag each other but other than that we are interacting with each other. And that’s what good friends do! When you have fun people around you, you don’t bother with your phone as much to scroll through news feeds.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not like I forget my phone exists because I randomly pick up my phone to snap our amazing and mostly random adventures. My point is, if you and your friends or SO are out to eat or wherever…don’t stare at your phone all night. It’s rude and utterly boring for all of you.

So back to the question of is technology killing our friendships? No. PEOPLE are killing friendships. People are ruining relationships. A lot of us have the capacity to make our own decisions and it is up to you to decide to put your phone down and interact with your friends. We all have the option to decide whether or not we want certain relationships to last and social media shouldn’t factor in.

I get it. Sometimes you just don’t want to be social face to face. That’s normal. We’ve all been there. Like when friends invite you out but you’re content with chilling on the couch with Netflix, Instagram and junk food. And maybe just a little wine. Just a little….

……and that’s okay.

We just can’t go around forgetting that there’s a real world out there. We have to exist outside of our social media worlds. Real true friends beat online companions everyday of the week. At least in my book.
